Peace & Quiet....

This year for Valentine's Day, I got a very special present...and for those of you who know me well, it wasn't jewelry. My wonderful husband gave me the gift of peace and quiet this year. With this new job he's in, he's been traveling a lot and with me staying at home all the time, he must have known I needed a break. He booked me a hotel room in Destin on the gulf for the night. I checked in on Sunday and out on Monday...it was so wonderful!! After I got over the initial shock of having no kids under me and relaxed a little (reassuring myself that things would be fine for the night at home), I had a great time!!!! I got to go to dinner by myself (saying "party of 1" is a lot different than " party of 5 with 3 kids menus please":) I got to go shopping wherever I wanted to without hearing "mom, are we done yet?" or "I'm tired of being in this store." I went to Destin Commons (sort of like Easton; with the shops outside and a courtyard atmosphere in the middle). I got to stroll down the sidewalks and mill about in and out of any shop I desired without worry that my kids would touch or break something, I enjoyed "free" ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery (the "free" part is a whole other story), I got to sit and people watch from the park benches there without wiping sticky hands and getting melted ice cream all over me and everything else. Once back at the hotel, I got to sit out on the balcony and enjoy the "quiet" and listen to the ocean waves washing onto the shore. I got to sleep in the middle of a nice, king size bed for the night. The next morning, I ordered room service and ate breakfast in bed in my pajamas without feeding half of what I had to anyone, got to shower without any company in the bathroom, and shopped some more that afternoon.
I am not implying in any way that I don't love and cherish EVERY moment I have with my children because I do...I do not know what I would do without them, BUT at some point, it is nice to have some time alone to relax without all the "mommy worries" and "mommy duties" that come with this wonderful job, and regroup yourself before "throwing yourself back to the lions" when you get home.
It was SO wonderful, when I got home I told Gary that a day at the spa is nice, but a night away from everything was even better! Thanks Honey!!! I Love You!
